Volunteer Spotlight – Libby Hartlieb
At New Chapters our volunteers share our passion to inspire a love of books in at-risk youth. This is the next interview in our Volunteer Spotlight series, where we ask one of our volunteers a few questions.
We’re happy to introduce to you, Libby, who joined New Chapters in 2017 and quickly became an invaluable part of our volunteer team. She has extensive professional experience in elementary education and student support, and has taught children ages K-6 in Texas, Wisconsin and Iowa. Libby has a genuine rapport with the kids and is the perfect combination of being a smart and challenging educator to the kids as well as a cheerful, caring and positive adult in their lives.
We are thrilled to have Libby on our team and are truly grateful for her time and talent that she generously gives to the kids at our New Chapters libraries!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My name is Libby Hartlieb and I have been volunteering with New Chapters since the fall of 2017. I work in the library at YESS on Tuesday evenings as well as volunteer in the elementary classroom for the AEA teachers every Tuesday. I am currently working at Aspire Academy specializing in dyslexia.
How did you get involved with New Chapters?
I found my way to New Chapters after becoming an empty nester and hearing about the program while substitute teaching.
What are you most excited about in your volunteer role with New Chapters?
What excites me most about volunteering for New Chapters is the interaction I have with the students. I enjoy getting to build relationships with them and their teachers. I also enjoy sharing my love of books with them and incorporating reading into their daily life.
How has volunteering had an impact on you?
New Chapters has had a huge impact on me. It has allowed me to assist the AEA teachers in their classrooms. I have made new friends, met new challenges and expanded my knowledge of children living in this unique environment. I have a deep appreciation for New Chapters, YESS and the AEA programs and staff. I look forward to continuing my experience for years to come.
What is your favorite book?
I have always been an avid reader. I have so many favorite books that I have trouble narrowing it down to just one. But I can narrow down my favorite genre to mystery & suspense. I enjoy trying to figure it out what the author has planned before the big finish.
