Youth Homes of Mid-America

This residential treatment campus provides foster group care treatment for 45 teenage boys, ages 12-18. The treatment program provides care and services on a 24-hour basis to adolescents with behavioral and/or emotional problems of such magnitude that they are not able to remain in their own home.

The Residential units at YHMA have small bookcases filled with outdated and worn books.  New Chapters renovated a conference room with new paint, carpet, and custom bookshelves to create a beautiful new library space.  A smaller table and chairs was added to accommodate the occasional need for consultations. New Chapters donated 400 books to open the library and intends to grow the inventory to 1,000 books over the next few months.

Volunteers meet weekly with the boys to help them select and check out books.  Fun snacks, games, and prizes are utilized to make visiting the library a positive experience and to entice even the reluctant readers to join in.
